Gujarat Congress pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

The Gujarat Congress leaders gathered in large numbers to pay tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary on Monday. Leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani said that the Rajiv Gandhi government had contributed tremendously to women empowerment by introducing the provision for 33% reservation for women in panchayati raj institutions. He also said that Rajiv Gandhi had laid the foundation for ushering in the computer and telecommunication age in the country during his term as prime minister. Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Chavda recalled that it was the late prime minister who had lowered the age for voting from 21 to 18.
