A 38-year-old woman’s bluff was called after she tried to fool an insurance company with fake documents by claiming Rs 15 lakh insurance money on the death of her husband. Ellisbridge police has lodged a complaint of cheating against the Saijpur resident.Insurance officials who made preliminary inquiries found that the applicant’s husband had already died in July, 2014, but the woman took his insurance in January, 2016, by submitting forged documents to the company.Ellisbridge police has begun against the insurance agent and other suspected persons.As per the complaint filed by Mihir Trivedi, chief manager at Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance office at Panchvati, Varsha Didawala filed an insurance claim of Rs 15 lakh in January 2018 following the death of her husband Nathu Didawala. She submitted death certificate issued by AMC, death declaration certificate issued by a private doctor and bank passbook to the insurance company.Following the submission, the insurance company carried out a preliminary probe. Insurance officials were shocked when they found that the woman’s husband Nathu was into bootlegging of country liquor, while she had mentioned that he was into import export business and earning Rs 2.5 lakh per year. He was also a habitual drinker.As per probe, Nathu had died on July 20, 2014 during treatment at a private hospital in Naroda, while Varsha took his insurance of Rs 15 lakh in January 2016 after his death. The company rejected her claim and filed a criminal case against her. She had taken insurance from consultant Jignesh Joshi.Ellisbridge PI P D Parmar said, “We will probe the role of doctor, agent and other persons who prepared fake documents for insurance claim.”
