Surat: Two cadaver organ donations in just a day

Two more cadaver organ donations were reported from Surat on Wednesday, taking the total number of such cases from the city in the past 11 days to seven. In the second case, Bhilakia Gamit, 45, a farm worker, sustained injuries when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road on Monday. Donate Life said in a release that four kidneys and two livers of the two deceased were donated. Patil's family members agreed to donate his organs after being convinced to do the same by Donate Life, an organization that works for organ donation in and around Surat. In the first case, mill worker Rajendra Patil, 42, sustained grievous head injuries while returning home from work on May 30.

He was admitted to New Civil Hospital in Surat, where he was declared brain-dead. His family agreed to donate his organs. Donate Life said in a release that four kidneys and two livers of the two deceased were donated. The kidneys were transplanted into Dr Naresh Surti of Navsari, Gautam Patel of Ahmedabad, Ankit Katheriya of Bhopal, and Mamta Bhasin of Lucknow. The two livers were transplanted into Himmatnagar resident Manish Shah, and Vadodara's Mitesh Chauhan. CASE SHEET
