DALIT ATTACK: Two arrested for attack on Dalit teen

The Mehsana police on Saturday arrested two youth who were allegedly involved in thrashing a Dalit teen four days ago, even as two other accused continue to elude cops. Police had formed as many as 14 teams to trace the accused persons, who were missing since the video of the thrashing went viral. The video shows Mukesh pleading before the attackers to spare him, but they continue thrashing him. The attack on Mukesh Rathod (name changed), 13, took place on Wednesday. "Our teams are carrying out searches at several places where the remaining two accused could be in hiding.

The Mehsana police on Saturday arrested two youth who were allegedly involved in thrashing a Dalit teen four days ago, even as two other accused continue to elude cops. Police had formed as many as 14 teams to trace the accused persons, who were missing since the video of the thrashing went viral. Director General of Police Shivanand Jha told reporters in Gandhinagar that police teams had conducted searches at several places and arrested Jaydeep Darbar and Chahersinh Solanki, both residents of Endla village of Mehsana, in the wee hours of Saturday. Mobile phones of the two accused have been seized and sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for recovering videos of the assault, and other evidence. "Our teams are carrying out searches at several places where the remaining two accused could be in hiding. All efforts are being made to nab them at the earliest," Jha said. These two accused have been identified as Bharatsinh Darbar, also a resident of Endla village, and Yogeshwarsinh Darbar, a resident of Vithlapur in Ahmedabad district. The attack on Mukesh Rathod (name changed), 13, took place on Wednesday. In the video of the incident went viral a day later, Mukesh is see being abused and assaulted by the four youths for allegedly wearing mojdis and calling himself a darbar. The video shows Mukesh pleading before the attackers to spare him, but they continue thrashing him. A case was registered against the four accused at Becharaji police station. Jha said that they two police personnel have been deployed at the victim's house in Vithlapur to provide security to him and his family members. "We have also taken precautionary measures to ensure that there is no communal flare-up," the DGP added. Meanwhile, Mehsana collector HK Patel, and Dy SP Manjita Vanzara visited the victim's house on Saturday, and handed over a cheque of Rs 50,000 to him.
