Small units facing big challenges: GCCI prez Jaimin Vasa

Jaimin Vasa had formally taken over as the president of GCCI on Saturday. As he assumed office on Monday, he welcomed his core team comprising of senior vice president Durgesh Buch and vice president Hemant Shah. Talking about his agenda for next one year, Vasa said that capacity utilization is a major concern for not only small businesses but also large enterprises. "GCCI will make efforts for these units by enabling them to get access to markets within and outside country. Access to timely finance also continues to be a major bottleneck. We will interact with concerned authorities to iron out the problems," said Vasa. GCCI will play an active role in Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019, wherein it plans to have an MSME Conclave for small businesses to interact with their prospective buyers from the country and abroad. With Indian economy passing through major changes in past two years, it is becoming difficult for smaller units to sustain. "We are inviting FDI. But when these units will invest in India, where will be small players, who can act as vendors. It is necessary that small businesses also reap the benefit," said Vasa. Another major focus area for the new team will be encouraging innovation industries and academia. Vasa plans to have a strong coordination between Industries and academic institutions to create a skilled workforce that can cater to the requirements of the industries. A 'Vision Document' with a roadmap will be prepared with the involvement of experts from different fields.
