The curtain raiser for the StartUp summit will take place in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2019, the state government has been organising the VG StartUp Summit since last year. The second edition of the Vibrant Gujarat StartUp and Technology Summit 2018 — Grand Challenge, a three-day event, is going to take place between October 11-13, 2018. “The second edition of the StartUp Summit is bigger than last year. The three-day event to be held in the second week of October will see eight different themes. It is an extensive platform for Investors, startups, incubators and professionals for collaboration,” said D Thara, vice-chairman and managing director of GIDC. “We are encouraging startups to showcase their ideas, and face the different challenges in three different stages. The curtain raiser event will reflect the mood of the upcoming mega event. The Grand Challenge is an initiative to bring together a community of changemakers, who can harness science, technology, and innovation, to come up with innovative and sustainable solutions to the various challenges faced by the society — nationally or globally,” said Thara. Total 44 performers in three different stages (Idea stage, Bloom Stage and Scale UP Stage) will be given prizes ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30 lakh. The event seeks to engage innovators from around the country to solve far-reaching challenges that our society is facing today, and aims to foster innovation and support innovators in areas where they will have the most impact, said the official. Against last years two themes — food and water, this year, professionals can show their skills in the field of eight different categories, namely, AgriTech, FinTech, Smart & Shared Mobility, Women Centric Solutions, Manufacturing 4.0, Governance 2030, Maritime and Military Intelligence, and Heath Tech. The professionals are expected to pitch in innovative ideas in these categories. Rajkumar Beniwal, MD of iNDEXTb, informed DNA that the challenge is open to all and applications are invited for three different levels. “The basic concept of the event is that whosoever has entrepreneurial skills and wants to start something innovative, this event is for them. There will be a plethora of schemes, which include financial and technical support to them,” said Beniwal.
