"Parents of students who are not domicile of Gujarat have challenged the introduction of the domicile rule in the HC. Surat police in their submission informed the court that they found 96 fake domicile certificates out of which 13 students have secured admissions in round one. Gujarat High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of domicile certificates required for medical admissions. The court was hearing a petition filed by several students who had challenged the ruling that had reserved 85 per cent seats for domicile students," Dr Vasant Patel, president, Gujarat Domicile Parents Association said. Ten days ago, the members of the association had alleged that fake domicile certificates were being used by medical aspirants to secure admission and had sought a CID inquiry into the matter.

Gujarat High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of domicile certificates required for medical admissions. Surat police in their submission informed the court that they found 96 fake domicile certificates out of which 13 students have secured admissions in round one. Also of these 13, only 7 reported for admissions. "Only 7 of the 13 turned up for admission. The case will be heard on July 17. Recently, the state government amended a rule ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), making state domicile mandatory for admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical education courses in the state. The rule impacts 4,050 sanctioned seats for MBBS in 24 government, grant-in-aid and self-financed colleges. "Parents of students who are not domicile of Gujarat have challenged the introduction of the domicile rule in the HC. They have done so for their personal interests of taking their claim to the local quota seats rightfully belonging to the students of Gujarat. Such cross-border educational terrorism is a serious threat and a cause of definite concern for the citizens of Gujarat. We have also learned that certain candidates who are not domicile of the state but are still desirous of getting admission to the state quota seats have furnished bogus domicile certificates to the authorities that are acquired through illegal means," Patel said.
