After a day's break, heavy rainfall was reported at several places in south Gujarat on Friday. Light to moderate rainfall was also received in many places in north Gujarat and other regions on Friday, even as the Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places over the next two days. Umarpada taluka of Surat received 183 mm, i.e. over seven-inch rainfall between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm today, the highest in the state, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Three talukas in Bharuch and one in the Narmada received more than four-inch rain in the same period. Sixteen other talukas, spread across regions, received 2-4 inch rain, and 40 others received 1-2 inch rainfall. As many as 167 out of 251 total talukas recorded rainfall during the day today. Officials said that rainfall was received at many places in Gandhinagar, Banaskantha and Mehsana, the districts which the rains had eluded so far. The state has received a little more than 49 per cent of the average annual rainfall of the last 30 years in the current season so far, they said. The IMD has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in some districts of south Gujarat on Saturday, and scattered rainfall in central & north Gujarat, and Saurashtra.
