City boy Aagam Dalal came second in the finals exam of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (old cou-rse) held in May 2018, according to sources in Ahmedabad branch of ICAI. Another city lad, Sagar Shah, came second in finals for a new course of CA, again held in May 2018. Students from Ahmedabad region bagged 10 positions in top 50 in the nation for old course. In the new course, three city boys managed to get a place in top 20 passers from across the nation. 21-year old Aagam also ranked 33rd in Integrated Proficiency Competence Course (IPCC) exams in his first attempt. With schooling in Gujarati medium, Aagam feels that language is not a barrier in clearing CA exam. His father Sandip Dalal is a broker of cotton for leading textile companies while the mother is a homemaker. Another Sagar Shah stood seventh in CA Finals exam for a new course in his first attempt. Sagar has a history of CAs in his home. His father Pragneshbhai and brother Jainam are CAs. He wants to pursue Certified Public Accountant to work in the USA, Australia or Canada as he feels that there is an oversupply of CAs in Ahmedabad. Of the 907 students from Ahmedabad centre who appeared for the Old Course exams in May 2018, 251 passed, giving 27.67% results, marginally higher than 26.88% recorded in May 2017. 1,040 students appeared in Group one exam, of which 145 (13.94%) passed. 1,296 students appeared in Group Two, of which 191 (14.74%) passed. For CA Final exam-ination (New/Revise) course 26 students from Ahmedabad had appeared, of which 10 students passed indicating a result of 38.46%. 32 students appeared in group one and seven passed, while 36 appeared for Group two (5.56%), of which two passed.
