AHMEDABAD: The crime branch sleuths on Wednesday night arrested four members of the Chiklikar gang from near Sabarmati area for committing thefts in Vijapur, Sabarmati , Gandhinagar , Kalol and Pethapur. The police recovered Rs 83,900 from the arrested persons — Surjeetsing Tank (25), Kallusing Bhada (28), both residents of Motera in Sabarmati; and Kartarsing Tank (30) and Balpatsing Tank (19) of Kalol taluka in Mehsana district Police inspector S L Chaudhary, who is at currently holding the charge of assistant commissioner of police, crime branch, said that the gang was involved in more than eight house break-ins in the city.“We are looking for other members of the gang. We have flashed a message across the state to gather details of house break-ins which have not yet been cracked,” added Chaudhary. Police said the gang used to operate during the day as pig poachers, cap and specs sellers. “They used to recce the target area during night and identify locked bungalows,” Chaudhary said. “The gang is also involved in vehicle thefts,” he added.“Kartarsing was earlier held in Bhavnagar in an accident case, he was also arrested by Adalaj police for bike thefts and by Anand police for a house break-in. He was also detained under PASA and sent to Jamnagar jail,” said Chaudhary. Kallusing was held by Sabarmati police for burglary and by Gandhinagar police in an assault case. “We have handed over the accused to the local police,” Chaudhary said.
