Measles Rubella vaccination in Ahmedabad 36%, Gujarat 63%

Ahmedabad city residents showed the poorest response to the Measles Rubella (MR) vaccination programme run by government these days. Against 14.80 lakh kids been targeted to for vaccination, only 5.37 lakh children have been vaccinated in Ahmedabad. Addressing the media persons, she said, “It is our social responsibility to see that no kid is left out of vaccination programme as they could be victim of fatal diseases like measles and rubella. The numbers released by Gujarat government showed that only 36% kids against total target were vaccinated. Gandhinagar city showed reluctance for the vaccination programme with only 28% target achievement.

The government has set the target of vaccination among 1.60 crore children of the age of 9 months to 15 years in state but after a period of month, only 1 crore around kids have been administered the vaccine. Total average in state is 63%. Tribal district Dangs have showed good response with having marked 111% target achievement. Against 60,500 kids, more than 67,000 kids were vaccinated here. The health commissioner in Gujarat government, Jayanti Ravi released all these records during a press conference she addressed on Thursday. Addressing the media persons, she said, “It is our social responsibility to see that no kid is left out of vaccination programme as they could be victim of fatal diseases like measles and rubella. We have taken up this responsibility to achieve the target soon. We have completed vaccination among 1 crore kids and we will cover the rest of 60 lakh children soon.” “Around 81,560 sessions of vaccination were held in schools and above 50 thousand such sessions were held in Anganwadis. We are going to felicitate the principals of those schools where the vaccination was thoroughly completed.” Ravi, however, could not respond to the question of poor response from private schools in Ahmedabad for the vaccination and poor response in cities.
