AHMEDABAD: A man was attacked in Shiyal village of Bagodara taluka in Ahmedabad district on Wednesday as a brawl over pani-puri and improper parking took an ugly turn. According to a complaint lodged by Vithal Padhar (25) with Bagodara police, he was about to finish his remaining two pani-puris when a fellow villager, Suresh Bharwad , arrived there and asked him to park his bike properly.“When complainant told Bharwad to wait for a while as he is about to finish the remaining two pani-puris, Bharwad allegedly started abusing him,” said a police official. Soon, a heated argument ensued between them and Bharwad called one of his friends to the spot. “They then started beating Padhar,” the official added.Padhar told the cops that Bharwad’s friend held him tightly as Bharwad rained blows on him. According to the complainant, Bharwad then took out a bladed weapon and attacked him on his head.“As I started screaming with pain, my elder brother and uncle rushed there and finding me drenched in blood, they took me to a nearby government hospital,” said Padhar in the complaint.The police on Wednesday took Bharwad’s statement as an FIR against Bharwad and an unknown person under the charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and abetment to the offence.The police also slapped charges under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as the complainant belongs to a Dalit community and the accused persons used casteist slur while beating him. “The accused threatened the victim that if members from his community are ever seen in the village they will have to face dire consequences,” said a police official from Bagodara police station.
