Continuing the crackdown on illegal drug trade, the city police arrested one person with 5.8 ganja on Thursday, while police in State Capital Gandhinagar arrested one person with 8.2 kg charas. The city crime sleuths said the accused, Altaf Akbarkhan Pathan, 40, of Dariyakhan Ghumtha Chapra, has been selling the banned item for last six months. SL Chaudhari, police inspector of Crime Branch, said they got a tip-off on Wednesday. Responding to it, he said, a team of five sleuths raided Pathan's house. The cops seized ganja worth Rs58,780. During interrogation, Pathan said that an unidentified man used to deliver him drugs. Crime branch officers say they might recover more drugs from nearby areas. Pathan has been arrested under NDPS Act 8(C) and 20(B) of the IPC. Chiloda police said the arrest came during a routine vehicle check of vehicles at Himatnagar-Chiloda highway checkpoint. The accused has been identified as Babu Chippa, a resident of Madya Pradesh. Chippa, allegedly a carrier, was supposed to deliver the consignment to someone in Ahmedabad. He was travelling on a luxury bus while he was arrested. He allegedly got the consignment from someone in Ajmer and he was paid to deliver it. LD Vaghela, inspector of Chiloda police station, said, "The accused was going to deliver the consignment in Ahmedabad. The accused has delivered consignments several times t Ahmedabad."
