AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Technological University (GTU) in collaboration with a private firm had organized a centralized job fair for the final year students on Sunday. The GTU officials said that the students have been offered packages of up to Rs 4.5 lakh.The event which was held at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College , Chandkheda, attracted over 30 companies that offered a total of 400 jobs. The discipline in focus were mechanical, civil, electrical, auto-mobile and production. "A total of 1,400 students were selected for the matching job profiles. Each student was provided opportunity to submit their details to up to three companies. In this way, a total of 2,150 interviews took place where the companies selected 530 candidates. The placement process is likely to be finalized within seven days," said a GTU official.GTU V-C Prof Navin Sheth and the state government's technical education director KK Nirala were present at the event. Sheth said that they intend to organize engineering discipline and sector-specific job fairs on similar lines in the future.Experts opined that the job scenario especially in engineering disciplines is changing fast due to factors such as technology changes and mechanized processes. More and more students and companies are opting for interdisciplinary approach, they added.
