RAJKOT: Soon , a tourist facilitation centre will be set up at the Somnath temple in Gir-Somnath district, for those who do not require guest house but need a space to just freshen up.The Somnath Temple Trust is constructing the new tourist facilitation centre about 0.5km from the main temple premise at the cost of Rs 14 crore.The centre will include 10 rooms with separate facility for men and women.General manager of trust Vijaysinh Chavda said, “About 40% work has been completed and we expect the construction to be completed by January end next year. The new parking area will be 700 metre away from the temple. They can use the space and water at the community kitchen. Tourists can freshen up here and also get food.”The trust is also in the process of creating a new parking area after taking into consideration the increase in number of visitors over the past few years.Nearly 20 lakh devotees visited the temple only in the holy month of Shravan, said Chavda.The existing parking facility is being expanded to accommodate nearly 2,000 vehicles with separate entry and exit points to avoid traffic jams.There will also be six toilet blocks inside the parking lot along with a community kitchen.“People come in buses with cooks to cook their own food.
