Ahmedabad: Immerse Ganesha idols at installation sites

AHMEDABAD: In a first, the city traffic police are running a campaign to persuade about 450 Ganesha pandal organizers to immerse their eco-friendly idols at the site of installation. “It took about 30 minutes to immerse the eco-friendly idol.”Ganesha pandal organizers to immerse their eco-friendly idols at the site of installationNakum said that due to spreading awareness, there has been a huge drop in Ganesha idols made of plaster of paris. “About 98% of the idols are eco-friendly this time,” he said. Traffic police officials said that about 80% of the organizers have agreed to the proposal. “We are confident that citizens who care for the planet will be supportive,” he said.

Traffic cops visited societies and housing complexes in the western parts of the city.K D Nakum, the inspector of B Division traffic police station — which covers areas such as Navrangpura, Naranpura, Gujarat University, and Vadaj — said that on Saturday that the campaign was extended to residential societies through public-address systems. “We conducted a rehearsal at a temple in Sabarmati on Friday in which, according to the rituals, we used a vessel with about 10-15 litres of water,” Nakum said. “It took about 30 minutes to immerse the eco-friendly idol.”Ganesha pandal organizers to immerse their eco-friendly idols at the site of installationNakum said that due to spreading awareness, there has been a huge drop in Ganesha idols made of plaster of paris. “About 98% of the idols are eco-friendly this time,” he said.
