Former CM of Gujarat and veteran politician Shankersinh Vaghela, after an extended disappearance from public life, said he is politically active. Vaghela called a press conference on Tuesday at his residence 'Vasant Vagdho' located in the outskirts of Gandhinagar and expressed his anti-Modi views. He also opined that all political parties other than BJP should unitedly contest Lok Sabha polls and keep BJP away from power. Vaghela had formed a forum, or political party 'Jan Vikalp Party' during the Gujarat Assembly polls. All the candidates of his party bit the dust, however, Vaghela did not contest. Ever since then, Vaghela never appeared in any political forum or public gathering but he called some of his supporters and media persons suddenly at his home. Talking to media persons, he said, "I was never deactivated myself from politics and I am still active and will remain active till I breath last. I will not contest Lok Sabha polls but declare my support to anti-BJP and anti-Modi parties. I believe that all the anti-Modi or anti-BJP parties should unite to keep them away from powers in Lok Sabha polls. There is no need of third front but there should be a second front and it has to be anti-BJP only. " "I have no desire for power now as I have enjoyed being at the top position in power during my political career for many years. Now I wish to lend my support to parties which are fighting against BJP and Modi. The prime minister and his government have betrayed people of this nation including farmers," Vaghela added. Vaghela had parted his way with Congress last year in June when he was the opposition party leader in assembly. He had then voted for BJP candidates including party chief Amit Shah during Rajya Sabha polls in state but did not get reward from BJP thereafter. Stung by the incident, Vaghela had formed a political forum but remained fail to prove his mettle. His son Mahendrasinh also joined BJP one and a half months back. Vaghela's body language also seemed mellowed during press conference when he said that he would meet Congress leaders and leaders of UPA's political alliance. "I am ready to meet and hold talks with Rahul Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, Sharad Pawar or Mamata Banerjee. I am open to support them." Vaghela also shared with the media persons that veteran BJP leader LK Advani had expressed his desire during a short informal meeting in Delhi a few days back to contest Lok Sabha polls from Gandhinagar constituency in 2019 elections.
