Rtd cop cries ‘threat to life’ over parking spat

AHMEDABAD: A retired encounter cop who is still an accused in an encounter case had a quarrel with another man over parking about a week ago, called up the police control room, senior police officers, and expressed suspicion that the car could have been packed with explosives to blow him up, said a police official. Police sources said that a man had parked his car in the parking area where the retired encounter cop parks his car near his office.“The retired encounter cop not only fought with the car owner but also called up senior police officials claiming that he has done a lot for the country and that is why he is a target of anti-national elements who might try to eliminate him,” said a senior police official.“He kept insisting we trace and detain the man who had parked the car in his parking slot to learn whether it was an attempt on his life or not. We have told the ex-officer to file an FIR in the concerned police station and the matter will be thoroughly investigated,” said a senior police official.Senior police officials said the ex-cop had in the past as expressed concerns about an attempt on his life while in jail as an undertrial and also when he was admitted to a hospital for treatment from jail.The ex-cop who is an accused in an encounter case post 2002 Godhra riots has been claiming that the encounter was genuine and that he and other co-accused police officials are innocent.The ex-cop is also planning to approach the Supreme Court for his discharge in the case as he claims that permission under Section 197 was necessary to initiate legal proceedings against a public servant discharging his duties.
