DJ music spat leads to riots near Borsad

In Borsad town, two groups also entered into heated arguments over a road which was blocked for taking out the immersion procession. Soon, a group allegedly started abusing members from the minority community. Earlier, in the day, two mandals had already taken out immersion processions from the same route that passes from the heart of the village. But fight erupted when a Ganesha mandal, with youth from the Darbar community, took out a procession from near the masjid.There was a heated altercation the mandal members and a group from the minority community standing outside the mosque. It was only after teams from local crime branch, special operations groups and additional force rushed to the spot that the situation was brought under control.

VADODARA/ ANAND: A verbal spat over loud DJ music between two groups snowballed into clashes between mobs of two communities in Pipli village of Anand’s Borsad taluka during Ganesha immersion procession on Sunday.Sources said that the groups resorted to stone pelting clashed after dispute over playing music and bursting fire crackers near a mosque located in the village. The processions were going on peacefully in the morning. Earlier, in the day, two mandals had already taken out immersion processions from the same route that passes from the heart of the village. But fight erupted when a Ganesha mandal, with youth from the Darbar community, took out a procession from near the masjid.There was a heated altercation the mandal members and a group from the minority community standing outside the mosque. Soon, a group allegedly started abusing members from the minority community. Situation turned ugly when some members of the procession threw stones on the mosque, police said, adding this led to heavy stone pelting.Police, which was accompanying the procession, tried to control crowd from both the sides, but after their attempts turned futile, they alerted both Anand district control room and Bhadran police.The stone pelting which had started at around 12 noon continued for nearly 30 minutes. It was only after teams from local crime branch, special operations groups and additional force rushed to the spot that the situation was brought under control. The teams also started foot patrolling in the village and some miscreants were detained by Bhadran police.Till late night, the police was in the process of registering a formal complaint regarding the riots. Some glass windows of the mosque also got damaged in the stone pelting.Earlier too, members from both the Darbar and minority community have clashed at the village.At Vadeli village of Borsad taluka, there was a skirmish between groups belonging to Patel and Darbar communities. In Borsad town, two groups also entered into heated arguments over a road which was blocked for taking out the immersion procession. However, a compromise was struck later.
