Chief minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday launched the Centre's Bharat Ayushman programme in the state. Speaking at the launch of the programme at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, Rupani said so far governments had been formed at the Centre in the name of the poor, but not one except the present one had the interest of the poor in its heart. "The scheme will make health facilities further accessible to the poor. This is just one of the many people-centric policies initiated by the Modi government," said Rupani. Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said the scheme will benefit 10 crore families and 50 crore people across the country. "It will provide up to Rs 5 lakh of health insurance for the poor and this will be provided to all irrespective of caste, creed or religion," said Patel. He said in Gujarat 2.75 crore citizens will benefit from the scheme. "The scheme is an extension of the several innovative schemes that Narendra Modi had initiated during his tenure as the chief minister of Gujarat," Patel said. "The scheme is divided into two parts, one that requires a treatment expense of less than Rs 50,000 and the other that is more than Rs 50,000. The state will pay the insurance company towards the health premium and the company will pay the claim as and when made." He said the state will provide 40% funding for the scheme while 60% will be given by the Centre. SARDAR PATEL YATRA IN 10K VILLAGES
