General board meeting of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) kicked off on a stormy note Monday. The atmosphere turned toxic as members of the ruling BJP and the Congress traded blows on each other moments before the election for the post of mayor and deputy mayor started. Members of both parties hurled chairs and microphones, leaving several of them injured. While Congress' Jitu Rayka sustained severe injuries in his feet, BJP's Jaydev Parmar — who was already unwell — was asked to stay at the GMC for the vote. Parmar became critical and reportedly vomited in the general board room. Despite all the health hassles, Parmar had to stay put. The situation also melodramatic when Congress' Ankit Barot deceptively skipped the meeting and his party raged a ruckus, alleging the BJP for his 'abduction'. Barot had been missing since Sunday morning and his wife had registered a complaint with the local police station. Sources in the GMC, however, have a different story. "Ankit willfully stayed away as he was bribed by the BJP. Local BJP leader Ketan Patel and Barot are friends. He bribed Barot with a promise to make him a member in the standing committee of BJP after defection. As a result, Barot went underground and Ketan's wife, Rita, got elected as mayor," the source said. Barot's father and local Congress leader in Gandhinagar, Ashwin Barot, denied that Ankit remained illusively away from the meeting. MONEY DEAL GONE WRONG?
