(File) The conductor of a truck from Deesa was stabbed with a sharp-edged weapon in chest by unidentified ‘gau rakshaks’ in Ramol area of Ahmedabad on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The truck was carrying around 30 buffaloes from Deesa in North Gujarat to Bharuch in South Gujarat for slaughtering without mandatory papers and permission, said the police. Following the incident, Ramol police have registered two FIRs —one against the driver and conductor under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act for illegally carrying the animals and second against four unidentified ‘gau rakshaks’ for attacking the conductor of the truck. The conductor has been operated upon at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and is reportedly out of danger. The truck driver, Mustufa Sipai, has been arrested whereas investigations are on to identify and nab the unidentified persons who attacked the conductor. The injured conductor has been identified as Zaheer Qureshi, a resident of Deesa in Banaskantha district. In his complaint to police, Qureshi has stated that Sipai, also from Deesa, had approached him on Saturday night to accompany him as conductor for a trip from Deesa to Bharuch and he had agreed to it. There were around 30 male buffaloes in the truck. Around 12.30 am, when they reached Soni ni Chali in Ramol area, some unidentified persons wielding sticks tried to stop the truck while claiming themselves to be ‘gau rakshaks.’ Soon, Qureshi and Sipai saw police at some distance on the highway and hence stopped the truck. According to Qureshi, he tried to run away out of fear when two unidentified persons came on a two-wheeler and one of them stabbed him with a sharp-edged knife-like weapon. He fell unconscious and found himself in Civil hospital when gained consciousness. Ramol police inspector M S Kotwal said, “Sipai has been arrested on the spot whereas Qureshi will be arrested after he recovers from the injury,” Kotwal said. The FIR against Qureshi and Sipai has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) jawan Yogirajsinh. Regarding the FIR on attack on Qureshi, Kotwal said, “Since it was night time, the attackers managed to escape. Investigations are on to trace and arrest them.” For all the latest Ahmedabad News, download Indian Express App
