Gandhinagar: B.Tech student of DAIICT hangs self in hostel

A 20-year-old student of B.Tech at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) in Gandhinagar was found hanging in his hostel room on the campus on Friday morning. Police said the suicide came to light when the father knocked on the room of his son's hostel and no one responded. Soman Nair, registrar, DAIICT, said, "It is a very unfortunate incident and we have no idea why it has happened. Students said the police, as part of the investigation, had taken statements from several students on the campus. Chauhan's body will be taken to his native place in Rajasthan after the post mortem is conducted.

A 20-year-old student of B.Tech at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DAIICT) in Gandhinagar was found hanging in his hostel room on the campus on Friday morning. Police said prima facie, it seems like the victim, Yashpalsinh Virendrasinh Chauhan, committed suicide by hanging himself with a nylon rope sometime in the night in his room E-116. The complaint was filed by Sureshsinh Solanki who works there as a security guard As of now, it is not known what drove the youth to take the extreme step. The cops said they have not found any suicide note. Chauhan had recently appeared for his exams and was to go home for his vacations soon. On Thursday, his father had flown down from Kuwait to meet him and was staying at a relative's place. He was to go home with his father on Friday morning. Police said the suicide came to light when the father knocked on the room of his son's hostel and no one responded. He accessed the window to see what was wrong and found his son hanging from the ceiling. Chauhan's mother was reportedly in Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh when the incident happened. Chauhan's body will be taken to his native place in Rajasthan after the post mortem is conducted. The suicide sent shockwaves among the students. A batchmate, on condition of anonymity, said that Chauhan had seemed quiet for the past few days. "We are not sure if it was academic pressure or ragging that drove him to take this extreme step." Soman Nair, registrar, DAIICT, said, "It is a very unfortunate incident and we have no idea why it has happened. The police was informed after the incident came to light. The post mortem has been carried out and the body has been taken for last rites." Students said the police, as part of the investigation, had taken statements from several students on the campus.
