Refer to books by Indian authors: University Grants Commission to engineering colleges

To encourage Indian authors to pen new technical books, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all engineering colleges and universities to refer to the books by Indian authors. The AICTE expert committee has prepared a list of books by Indian authors and publishers as per the model curriculum. The books should be referred to by the faculty and students of the universities and colleges. In a circular, the chairman All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has informed that the AICTE has prepared the model curriculum of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering and technology. These by Indian authors and publishers need more encouragement among students and teachers and this will also prompt many Indian authors to pen new technical books and in new areas too, augmenting the horizon of technical education in the Indian scenario."

The list of books to be referred has been uploaded on the website of the AICTE and professors should refer from the same, the circular said. It further said, " It is hoped that these books, by Indian authors drawing on the Indian experience and contextualized on the Indian settings may aid the students in better learning of the concepts and in turn improve their quality. The books should be referred to by the faculty and students of the universities and colleges. These by Indian authors and publishers need more encouragement among students and teachers and this will also prompt many Indian authors to pen new technical books and in new areas too, augmenting the horizon of technical education in the Indian scenario."
