Gujarat High Court asks Gujarat University to respond to blind student's plea in a week

  • | Sunday | 9th December, 2018

The student, Devid Joshi, had moved court complaining that although the university had declared the results of other students of semester IV of MSW, his result was withheld. Acting on a petition filed by a blind student of Master of Social Work (MSW) for non-declaration of results, the Gujarat High Court has directed the Gujarat University to reply within a week on why the result of the blind student was withheld. Joshi had argued before the court that he has made several representations before the university officials, but not received any satisfactory response on why his result was withheld. However, in a complete surprise for Joshi, the result of semester IV was declared by the varsity on August 29, but his result was withheld. He had also contended that because of the "arbitrary" action of the university, his career is getting spoiled.

Acting on a petition filed by a blind student of Master of Social Work (MSW) for non-declaration of results, the Gujarat High Court has directed the Gujarat University to reply within a week on why the result of the blind student was withheld. The student, Devid Joshi, had moved court complaining that although the university had declared the results of other students of semester IV of MSW, his result was withheld. Joshi had argued before the court that he has made several representations before the university officials, but not received any satisfactory response on why his result was withheld. He had also contended that because of the "arbitrary" action of the university, his career is getting spoiled. The MSW claimed that due to harassment and other issues during the tenure of his study in the varsity, he had attempted suicide on May 12, 2017, and was admitted to Civil Hospital, Sola. Following the contentions raised by the petitioner, a single judge bench of the court directed the varsity to clarify to the respondent in writing within a week on why his result was withheld. The court also gave the petitioner the liberty to approach for a legal remedy if he is not satisfied with the varsity's response. Case details As per the case details, Joshi got enrolled in the MSW course in 2016 and had cleared the first three semesters and was eligible to appear for the fourth semester. He appeared in the fourth-semester exam in April 2018. However, in a complete surprise for Joshi, the result of semester IV was declared by the varsity on August 29, but his result was withheld. He also alleged that a certain professor of the varsity was responsible for withholding his results and he was victimised by the said professor. Joshi also claimed that several representations were also made in this regard, but in vain. Eventually, he had to move the court to get a relief. WHAT THE TWO SIDES SAY
