GANDHINAGAR: For the first time since 1961, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet in Gujarat, on February 28, either at open ground besides Mahatma Gandhi’s iconic Sabarmati Ashram, or the Sardar Patel memorial in Shahibaug. Congress leaders will then address a massive public rally, near Trimandir in Adalaj, on the home turf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.Congress president Rahul Gandhi had recently inaugurated the party’s Lok Sabha campaign with a rally at Valsad in South Gujarat.The entire top Congress leadership — Sonia Gandhi, former PM Dr Manmohan Singh, Congress parliamentary party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Priyanka Gandhi, the newly appointed general secretary for eastern Uttar Pradesh — will be in Gujarat on February 28.Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda said, “The AICC has directed that its working committee meeting be arranged in Ahmedabad on February 28. This was last held in Gujarat in 1961. The meeting will be attended by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and top leaders such as Soniaji, Dr Manmohan Singh, Priyankaji, national office bearers, state unit presidents and chief ministers of Congress-governed states. The committee will discuss plans for the Lok Sabha elections and will pass national resolutions on the issues the country is facing.”“The CWC meeting will be held in the first half of the day, probably near Sabarmati Ashram or the Sardar Patel memorial.
