Gujarat: Opposition creates ruckus, Governor OP Kohli cuts short address

They interrupted Governor OP Kohli's address to the house with chants, demanding farm loan waiver. The five day-long budget session that began on Monday started with stormy proceedings as opposition members started chanting slogans, condemning the terror attack and demanding action, saying, "Eliminate terrorism, we are with you". They also disrupted the address of the governor in the house. As per tradition in rural Gujarat, people wear white headgear to show respect for the deceased at obituary meets. They also disrupted the address of the governor in the house. The five day-long budget session that began on Monday started with stormy proceedings as opposition members started chanting slogans, condemning the terror attack and demanding action, saying, "Eliminate terrorism, we are with you". They interrupted Governor OP Kohli's address to the house with chants, demanding farm loan waiver. Congress MLAs from the rear benches came towards the well and a legislator from Khambhaliya, Vikram Madam, took the lead. As opposition members disrupted the address by the governor, he had to cut short his speech and leave the house, tabling the remaining part of his address. The governor started his address by paying homage to the martyrs of the Pulwama attack and said, "I offer homage to the martyrs from CRPF who lost their lives in the attack and my sympathies are with their families. Terrorism has become a global menace and is a challenging issue for many nations. India is also suffering because of such terror acts and is unfortunate." The governor, in his speech, complimented his government for dedicating the 182 meter-tall Statue of Unity to the nation. He also remembered former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee during his speech. Kohli further complimented the state government for organising the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing 10% reservation to people of economically weaker sections, the governor also remarked on how the Gujarat government was the first state to implement the same.
