The review of payouts must be done at the earlie st. Jignesh Mevani, Independent MLA, VadgamI am not aware that there has been no review since 1986. On Wednesday, when Mirror delved into the payouts made by Gujarat government to its 39 bravehearts, the revelation was shocking — it pays a measly Rs 20,000 to its Ashok Chakra awardee. Lalit Vasoya, Cong MLA, DhorajiA day after Ahmedabad Mirror cover story on the measly payout given to army’s gallantry medal winners from the state, Gujarat government is in the process of reviewing the payouts. Among the laggards, along with Gujarat, are Arunachal, West Bengal, Punjab, Odisha and Manipur, which compensate soldiers poorly.

Pradipsinh Jadeja Param Vir Chakra The process of revision of reward given to the soldiers who receive gallantry medals is on. We have also convened a meeting to review it. Pradipsinh Jadeja, Minister of State for Home The payout currently off ered must be reconsidered as soldiers have dedicated their lives for the protection of fellow countrymen. They do not hesitate laying down their lives for the nation. It is our duty to take care of the family of the martyrs. We must off er a respectable amount on a par with other states. I will represent the matter at the proper forum. Kishor Chauhan, BJP MLA, Vejalpur Gujarat is a prosperous state which gets business worth crores after every Vibrant summit. It must give double the reward as compared to Haryana which gives highest at present. The reward at present is small and an insult to them. It also tarnishes the image of Gujarat which is considered prosperous and is the PM’s home state. I will write a letter to the CM. Imran Khedawala, Congress MLA BJP is always at forefront when it comes to shouting slogans like Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan but when it comes to giving something back to them, their hypocrisy is exposed. When an industrialist wants land, BJP will readily give it even if it is worth crores. The review of payouts must be done at the earlie st. Jignesh Mevani, Independent MLA, Vadgam I am not aware that there has been no review since 1986. If it is so, it must be reviewed. I will talk to the party as well as the govt on this. I hope it will take action. Jagdish Panchal, BJP MLA, Nikol A soldier should be accorded due respect. Gujarat is not a poor state. If Haryana can give Rs 1 crore, we can give more. I will represent the matter as an MLA. Vikram Madam, Cong MLA, Khambhalia This amount must be increased for the awardees . I will raise the issue in the assembly in the current session. Soldiers must get respect they deserve. Lalit Vasoya, Cong MLA, Dhoraji A day after Ahmedabad Mirror cover story on the measly payout given to army’s gallantry medal winners from the state, Gujarat government is in the process of reviewing the payouts. This was confirmed by Minister of State for HomeSince 1986, the government has been doling out painfully paltry sums of a few thousands to gallantry award winners from Gujarat. On Wednesday, when Mirror delved into the payouts made by Gujarat government to its 39 bravehearts, the revelation was shocking — it pays a measly Rs 20,000 to its Ashok Chakra awardee. If the same sacrifice is made by a soldier in Haryana, he is awarded Rs 1 crore.According to data on the website of Sainik Welfare & Resettlement department, which functions under the state Home ministry and handles the payouts, aawardee receives a mere Rs 22,500 one-time payout and a lowly Rs 500 monthly annuity for 30 years. To beat it, this sum is a revised amount — up from Rs 15,000 that was paid prior to 1986. The data shows an Ashok Chakra awardee is given a mere Rs 20,000, Sarvottam Yuddha Seva medal awardee Rs 17,000, a Mahavir Chakra awardee Rs 15,000, Kirti Chakra awardee Rs 12,000, Uttam Yuddha Seva Medal awardee Rs 10,000, Vir Chakra awardee Rs 7,000, Shaurya Chakra awardee Rs 5,000 and a Yuddha Seva medal awardee Rs 4,000.Gujarat has had one recipient of the Ashok Chakra, two recipients of Mahavir Chakra, two Kirti Chakras, five Vir Chakras, four Shaurya Chakras and 25 other bravery awards. To put things in perspective, all of these martyred brave men have been given a total amount of an embarrassing Rs 2,04,000.Reacting to Mirror report, MLAs across party lines have sought for a review of the sum, saying Gujarat is one of the most prosperous states of the country and it ill behoves PM’s home state to provide meagre rewards to its soldiers who fight for the protection of the land. The Centre has issued guidelines on the minimum cash grant to be given to gallantry award winners by the states, but states are at liberty to fix their own ceiling. Some also offer cash in lieu of land and pension. Among the laggards, along with Gujarat, are Arunachal, West Bengal, Punjab, Odisha and Manipur, which compensate soldiers poorly. Haryana is the most generous of the lot.WHAT THEY SAID
