AHMEDABAD: After model code of conduct for 2019 General elections came into effect, a total of Rs 95.43 lakh cash has been seized by flying squads- These cases include that of Amreli district in which Rs 25 lakh were seized. Officials said apart deploying three Flying Squads per constituency, toll free numbers, call centres and control rooms have been set up in each district to ensure smooth flow of information.State Election Commission said nodal officer of each district for election expenditure has been appointed, who will keep an eye on the expenditure made by the candidate. Officials said Gujarat is going to the polls on 23rd of April and the last date for withdrawal of names of candidates is 5th of April and hence the SOP for security arrangements will be made later.“At Present the ECU is concentrating on the security arrangements for Phase -1 and Phase -2 to general elections” added a government official.Election officials said after the announcement of polls they have registered 9608 under the Prohibition cases, 7616 persons have been arrested, country made liquor worth Rs 7.55 and Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth 3,46,56,259 and other prohibited items worth Rs 5.79.92.120 have taken into custody.State Election officials said they have formed a Committee for release of cash or other items which are later proved to be legal. “As far as preventive detention is concerned we have detained about 53008 persons, and a total of ahout 8000 under other preventive acts. 228 persons have been detained under the Prevention of Anti- Social Activities Act (PASA) . Out of 13412 Non bailable warrants, we have delivered about 5359 warrants after the election dates were announced.
