AHMEDABAD: A 37-year-old man died and 30-year-old man ended up losing his hand, when the car they were in struck an SUV, at Iskcon Crossroads on SG Road in the wee hours of Wednesday.Seven others, who in the SUV, suffered comparatively minor injuries in the accident The deceased was been identified as Vipul Patel, a resident of Astha Bungalows, and a builder by profession. He is the son of a retired deputy superintendent of police, R R Brahmbhatt.The accident took place at 1.15am on Wednesday, when Patel lost control of his car, which jumped the divider and slammed into the SUV in which seven employees of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were travelling, from Gandhinagar “Patel and Brahmbhatt were going from Sarkhej towards Gota and the SUV was going in the other opposite direction. On this, Dhrangu said, “We have sent Brahmbhatt’s blood samples for medical test and Patel’s body has also been sent for a postmortem. We are waiting for the reports to ascertain if they were drunk.”At around 6.00am on Wednesday, four other cars suffered damage at the same spot when some drivers lost control over their vehicles as they were distracted by the sight of Patel’s mangled car, said Dhrangu.
