AHMEDABAD: The investigation into cases of mass copying at polytechnics under by the Gujarat Technological University has revealed one interesting case of cheating in the exams . A sadhu, a student of the Kalol Swaminarayan Polytechnic, is said to have exchanged his whole whole answer sheet during the exam.The sadhu, who lives at the gurukul housing the polytechnic college, got the entire answer sheet written by someone outside the examination centre. These answer sheets were then brought into the centre and placed among the other answer sheets. The sadhu has been barred from taking examinations for a period of three years. He was a third-semester student of the college. Authorities said that the investigation established that the a majority of staff at the polytechnic had a role in the cheating.Navin Sheth, vice-chancellor of GTU, said, “The sadhu’s cheating was established as his handwriting does not match the writing on his answer sheets. It has been proved that the answer sheets he submitted were written by someone else.”Sheth added that videos of mass cheating at this college had surfaced, after which an investigation was initiated. “We have withheld the results of 250 students of this polytechnic college. We suspect there has been mass cheating in at least three papers. To ensure that honest students do not suffer, we have initiated a detailed investigation into the case of mass cheating.University officials said that the name of the college has been removed from the list of examination centres for one year and it has been fined Rs 1 lakh. All remuneration for employees involved in examination work at this college has also been taken back.The three polytechnics where mass irregularities took place are Kalol Polytechnic, Atul Polytechnic near Mahudi and Tatva Polytechnic in Modasa. Disciplinary action has been taken against 50 students of Tatva Polytechnic and 10 students of Atul Polytechnic.
