The Congress party on Tuesday named candidates for two more Lok Sabha seats in the state. With this, the party has now announced its nominees for six of the 26 seats in Gujarat, while the rest are also expected to be announced in a day or two. On Tuesday, the names of Naresh Maheshwari and Dharmesh Patel were released by the party as its candidates from Kutch (SC) seat and from Navsari seat, respectively. Maheshwari, a former president of Kutch District Congress Committee, will take on sitting MP and BJP candidate Vinod Chavda, 40. Maheshwari, 48, has been associated with the Congress since over two decades, party officials have said. However, this will be his first Lok Sabha election. Meanwhile, Congress candidate from Navsari Dharmesh Patel belongs to the Koli community, and is the chairman of the Vejalpore municipality. His father Bhimbhai Patel was an influential community leader. He will face off in a direct contest with two-term MP and BJP nominee CR Patil. The Congress is yet to announce candidates for 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
