Gujarat: Election nears, complaints of MCC violation pile up

The BJP wrote to the Election Commission (EC) and state's chief electoral officer alleging that Baldevji Thakor, Congress MLA from Kalol seat, had at an election rally on April 13 uttered abusive and foul words against BJP president Amit Shah. The complaint said that Thakor had described Shah as General Dyer. "This is a clear violation of MCC. Immediate, prompt, and severe actions are expected from EC against Thakor for personal comments against Amit Shah, and using low and foul language," the BJP complained to EC. In another case, the Congress wrote to the CEO and complained about voter intimidation by a former BJP MLA and a criminal element. It alleged that ex-MLA Jairajsinh Jadeja, who was sentenced to life in a murder case, and is presently out on bail, and Anirudhsinh Jadeja, who was released from jail recently after 17 years in a murder case, were threatening voters to vote for BJP candidate Ramesh Dhaduk. The party demanded that the two be barred from the state till elections were over. Jairajsinh's wife is the MLA from Gondal. The party demanded transfer of Gondal's prant officer RM Rayjada alleging he had summoned government employees before casting of postal ballots, and threatened them to vote for the BJP candidate. MLA says take liquor, but vote for Cong Congress MLA from Dhanera constituency in Banaskantha Nathabhai Patel raked up a controversy on Thursday when he told voters to take money or liquor from BJP, but to vote for Congress. Banaskantha collector Sandip Sagale said that they have initiated action based on media reports, and have sought a report. 'BJP MLA Katara violated MCC' BJP MLA from Fatepura seat Ramesh Katara violated MCC when he told voters that they would not get work if they did not vote for BJP, Dahod district collector Vijaykumar Kharadi said in a report to the state's CEO. Kharadi said they would initiate action against Katara based on directions of the CEO.
