The Congress party has filed a total of 28 complaints with the Election Commission about poll code violations or acts of intimidation during the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat. Of this, nine complaints pertained to the three seats of Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West and Gandhinagar. It should be noted that BJP chief Amit Shah is contesting from Gandhinagar. Two of these complaints related to road shows by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. On Monday, the Congress had warned of BJP leader Shah and Prime Minister Modi taking out a road show while voting. Modi cast his vote at a booth in Ranip that forms part of the Gandhinagar constituency. The second complaint was about both Shah and Modi carrying out a road show before casting their ballots, which the Congress said was in violation of the model code of conduct. Two other complaints pertained to a re-telecast of a television interview of Amit Shah and Ahmedabad East candidate Kirit Solanki. The opposition party also alleged that in Gandhinagar, some voters, particularly those who were poor, had their index finger inked forcefully to prevent them from voting. Yet another charge was that voters were being bullied to vote for the BJP. The Congress also alleged that at some booths in Bharuch, CCTV cameras were installed in such a way that they violated voting privacy. Other complaints included incidents of officials in Anand threatening polling agents of the Congress and Congress workers being attacked with bows and arrows in Dahod. Yogesh Ravani of the Congress' legal cell said that in Dahod and Mehsana, the party's workers were attacked while on poll duty.
