Under such circumstances, claim settlements should be processed faster, state's apex body for trade and commerce wrote to a dozen insurance companies, to the national regulator in the insurance sector and to the union finance ministry. Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), recently said in a letter to insurance companies that Gujarat has been witnessing heavy rainfall over past few weeks, due to which routine business activities have taken a hit in many districts. In view of the current situation, there is a very high probability that a large number of insurance claims will be made by the affected industries/businesses in the coming weeks. GCCI also suggested that insurance companies should undertake a special drive of 'Claim Clinics' at least at the district level across Gujarat. Buch told DNA that trade and industries are facing a shortage of liquidity and under such circumstances, it is necessary that claims are settled and payments are made.

In the wake of heavy rains and floods in many parts of the state, there is severe loss of property to businessmen. "Industry and tread have also been badly affected and day-to-day work has either come to a grinding halt or are going on at snail's pace. In view of the current situation, there is a very high probability that a large number of insurance claims will be made by the affected industries/businesses in the coming weeks. GCCI, therefore, strongly suggests that the companies should take proactive measures to ensure that these claims are duly assessed and reimbursed at the earliest," reads the letter. GCCI also suggested that insurance companies should undertake a special drive of 'Claim Clinics' at least at the district level across Gujarat. "In response, some companies have already appointed nodal officers. We want to ensure that the claim form is as simple as possible and the investigation is hassle-free and expedited," said Durgesh Buch, President of GCCI. Buch told DNA that trade and industries are facing a shortage of liquidity and under such circumstances, it is necessary that claims are settled and payments are made. "Once the inspection is over, we will also request that 75 % of the amount should be released by the next day itself.
