Gujarat: 2 men trigger bomb hoax for fun, arrested by Vadodara Crime Branch

The Vadodara Crime Branch on Sunday arrested two men for allegedly acting suspiciously and attempting to bribe a mall employee to store a bag in the mall premises. The act raised suspicion which led to the police and bomb detection and disposal squad being called in. The mall authorities, when came to know about the incident, alerted the Crime Branch which rushed to the spot with Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS) unit, Special operation group (SOG) in tow. DS Chauhan, ACP Vadodara Crime branch, said, "We got CCTV footage of the duo. During interrogation, it was revealed that the two were auto drivers and they carried out the act for fun.

The accused were identified as Jignesh Bariya (35) and Sagar Thakkar (30), residents of Vadodara. As per police officials, on Sunday evening at around 6 pm, the Vadodara police control received a call from an employee of Inox multiplex of Galaxy mall on Ajwa-Waghodiya road regarding two suspicious men trying to bribe a housekeeping staff to fetch their bag from the car and plant it inside the multiplex. They allegedly offered him Rs 30,000 for doing the job. When asked why they cannot get the bag from the car themselves, the duo said that they will not be able to bring it inside due to security checking. On being rejected, the duo left the spot. The mall authorities, when came to know about the incident, alerted the Crime Branch which rushed to the spot with Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad (BDDS) unit, Special operation group (SOG) in tow. DS Chauhan, ACP Vadodara Crime branch, said, "We got CCTV footage of the duo. They were identified and nabbed from Ajwa. During interrogation, it was revealed that the two were auto drivers and they carried out the act for fun. No bag was recovered from them." The cops have lodged a case under the Indian Penal Code 505(1)B and 290 against the duo for furnishing false information and creating panic among people. Further probe is being carried out by Bipod police. Booked The accused confessed of having carried out the act for fun.
