"During interactions with volunteers, Lakhan laid bare his heart and spoke about his dream of becoming a police inspector and punish criminals. Ajay Devgan's character from the movie Singham was his inspiration," said Rupande Shah, project coordinator of Make-A-Wish Foundation, Ahmedabad division. She approached Juna Padra police station and informed the staff about Lakhan's wish. Earlier during the day, Lakhan was brought to Juna Padra Road Police Station, where he was dressed up as a Police Inspector. "It was a dream come true," said eight-year-old Lakhan as the police team of Vadodara city police dropped him at his home on Thursday. Lakhan is suffering from a terminal illness and is getting treated at one of the city hospitals. However, Thursday became a day he will remember for a lifetime. The change from the otherwise mundane schedule of going to the school and regular visits to the hospital was because of volunteers of 'Make-A-Wish' Foundation, who had earlier spotted him at the hospital. Police staff said that needed permission from superiors, which they got easily and everything was planned to the minutest details. Earlier during the day, Lakhan was brought to Juna Padra Road Police Station, where he was dressed up as a Police Inspector. He performed a roll-call, conducted patrolling with the police staff, visited the lock-up and gave orders to the staff. In addition to following the orders of the young boss, the staff also showered him with chocolates and bouquets. "We did our best to make him feel like a Police Inspector. He also told us that there should be no place for criminals here," said Rajan Sushra, deputy commissioner of police – Zone -2 of Vadodara city, under whose jurisdiction Juna Padra Road police station falls. "We also got to know about the humane side of the police. They were giving Lakhan a royal treatment. They also managed a police uniform for him," said Shah. As the police dropped him in a police van at his home, the gun-man gave him salute before opening the door.
