Day one: Ahmedabad Traffic Police ring the warning bell

On the first day of the new fines implementation, cops showed mercy on the violators and gave them a chance to redeem their faults. There was no drive organised by the traffic cops on the first day and many violators were allowed to go after a warning. In the city, cops were nabbing down the violators who were rash driving, driving on the wrong side, driving without a license and violating traffic stop lines and they were fined also by cops. Jayal Patel, 28, Businessman said, "In the morning at around 10.30am i was stopped by cops for taking the wrong side. Later the man even came back to the cops and showed his helmet.

But on the other hand, offenders were also allowed to go with a warning by police for not wearing helmets, Tejas Patel, DCP traffic said, "We want people to know that the rules are for their benefit only not for us. It's for their safety and secuirty the rules are made and if they follow it less accident will occur. We went ease on offenders on the first as we wanted the people to adapt to the change. Once everything is normal we will start implying the rules strickly. " There was even an incident, a woman was driving on the wrong side was caught by cops, but later she was allowed to go after the cops came to know she had only Rs 200 with her, while the fine was of Rs 1500. Jayal Patel, 28, Businessman said, "In the morning at around 10.30am i was stopped by cops for taking the wrong side. The cops didn't fine for the violation, but they gave me a warning and made me aware that the next time if i repeat the offence again i will have to pay a fine Rs 1500." In the Shahibaug area, a man was allowed to stop for not wearing a helmet, but he was allowed to go after a man told the cops he had forgot his helmet at the house and was on his way to collect. Later the man even came back to the cops and showed his helmet.
