At Sabarmati ashram, PM Narendra Modi says let's follow in footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed satisfaction that he could make India Open defecation free (ODF). He kept his promise," wrote Modi while on a visit to the Ashram on Wednesday. "Today I am happy to be standing in this place where we could make India ODF free," Modi wrote further. "Today his message of people's participation has reached all corners of the country," wrote Modi. He said the prime minister suggested a performance by various schools from the state, three days a week.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed satisfaction that he could make India Open defecation free (ODF). He shared this in the visitor's book at the ashram where he penned his thoughts. "Sabarmati ashram is a place of pilgrimage for determination and accomplishments. This is where Gandhiji promised that he wouldn't return to this ashram until India achieves Independence. He kept his promise," wrote Modi while on a visit to the Ashram on Wednesday. "Today I am happy to be standing in this place where we could make India ODF free," Modi wrote further. He further said that we may not have got an opportunity to walk beside him as he led the country to its independence but we can definitely walk on the path shown by him. "Today his message of people's participation has reached all corners of the country," wrote Modi. Modi, who also paid tribute to the father of the nation, visited the Charkha exhibition at Magan Nivas. "Modi himself is well-versed and aware of the happenings about both the ashram as same as Gandhiji. He also saw the improvements in the ashram and the amphitheater and suggested that it be used for performing skits by students," said Kartikeya Sarabhai, trustee of ashram. He said the prime minister suggested a performance by various schools from the state, three days a week. Modi who was to meet the students, who were part of the Learning Non-Violence program, as well as college students, who were working towards reducing the use of plastic, could not interact with them although he did wave to them. Dev Khacha, a student of a primary school in Sayla in Surendranagar said that he wanted to have a picture with the prime minister. He was among the three students selected to interact with the Prime Minister. "I have only seen him on TV and am excited to see him in person. If I get a chance to talk to him I will ask him about his childhood," said Khacha.
