The disciplinary committee of the Gujarat Congress on Monday removed Jayesh Godiya from the party after he wrote an open letter in the internal group of the party raising questions about the leadership of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Chavda. The letter later found its way into social media. The party said that Godiya was being removed in response to the letter he had written on October 6, in the social media which made some baseless and misguided comments. Godiya, a member of GPCC editorial board, said that he has only spoken the truth. "It was important that we bring to notice the issues facing the party. I have only laid bare my views in the internal group of the party and had not leaked it to the media," said Godiya. He said he had not been called upon by the party to give any explanation. "If the party functioned that way it would have been in power," said Godiya. As to his future plans, Godiya said that he will continue with his social work and that a break from politics was welcome. "I have served the party for three decades, they have given me a break from it now," said Godiya. To a question on whether he will be joining the BJP, Godiya categorically denied it. Earlier reacting to reports about questions being raised about his leadership, Chavda had told news channels that such messages being forwarded were against the interest of the party and disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible. He also said that the party had taken note of the issues raised by Jayrajsinh Parmar. "Jayrajsinh has raised some pertinent issues and we are working towards resolving it," said Chavda. Earlier party spokesperson Jayrajsinh Parmar had expressed his displeasure at not being nominated by the Kheralu Assembly constituency stating that he was disappointed at the functioning of the party. Congress has nominated Babuji Thakor as the candidate for the by-elections. Parmar had said that by ignoring him for the seat, the party had failed to appreciate his contribution. Earlier, a message appeared in the editorial board group of Gujarat Congress which stated that GPCC chief Amit Chavda has lost the trust of the Congress workers and that questions are being raised about his way of functioning. "The actions of senior Congress leaders is demoralising the workers which in turn is affecting the party. Everyone needs to be taken along if you want to win an election. So we request you to put in your papers to prevent further damage to the party," wrote Jayesh Godiya, GPCC editorial board members in the message on the party's internal WhatsApp group.
