Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday has announced its decision to permit manufacturing activity in all areas of city including Eastern Ahmedabad areas but barring the areas in containment zone.

In a meeting on Wednesday, the AMC said it was decided to allow industrial units in eastern part of the city, barring those in containment zones, to resume operations like the ones in the western part of the city.

However, industrial units in the much-affected 10 wards that fall in containment zones will continue to remain shut, said a statement by Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Gupta, who has been assigned the management of the pandemic.

According to guidelines issued by the AMC, employees entering the industrial units between 8 am and 4 pm will not be allowed to exit and re-enter the same day.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had on Monday announced that no shops, except those selling essential items, were permitted remain to open in the eastern part of Ahmedabad, which has 10 out of 11 containment zones in the city. Industrial units will be allowed to operate in both eastern and western parts of the city provided they follow standard operating procedure issued by the state`s industries department, the civic body stated in a release.
