After COVID 19 recovery rate, Ahmedabad improves testing capacity

Amid the pandemic, Gujarat’s worst-hit city Ahmedabad is making milestones by increasing COVID testing capacity.

Nearly 60 days since the lockdown began, India continues to rank low in the list of coronavirus-hit countries in terms of the number of tests done per million population. This is despite the government’s efforts to ramp up testing and disease surveillance.

Reportedly, so far, over 25 lakh tests have been conducted, according to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the country’s apex research body that has been coordinating the massive disease surveillance exercise.

Amid the pandemic, Gujarat’s worst-hit city Ahmedabad is making milestones by increasing COVID testing capacity.

In Ahmedabad city, a number of Coronavirus tests per million people were 5344 up to 5th May 2020. It has gone up to 9492 as on 23rd May, 2020 showing a rise of 77%.

Since the government of India has announced the beginning of domestic flights facilities from 25th May 2020, Sardar vallabhai Patel Airport will be operationalized from Monday. As it falls in the eastern part of Sabarmati river, it was decided to give partial relaxation to cabs/taxi/car aggregators for providing services to and from Airport only. However, auto- rickshaws will be allowed.
