Gujarat: Stopped by cops, man flees abandoning car with 720 bottles of whiskey, beer worth Rs 75,000

Gujarat Police on Wednesday seized a total of 720 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 75,000 from a car in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. Police have claimed that the driver of the car, a Maruti 800, allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled when he was chased by the cops, an Indian Express report stated. An FIR, in this case, has been lodged at Tharad police station. The incident happened when a police team, patrolling in Karban village, asked the driver to stop when it found him moving suspiciously.

The incident happened when a police team, patrolling in Karban village, asked the driver to stop when it found him moving suspiciously.

The driver did not stop but instead, tried to sped away. When he was chased, the driver abandoned the car and fled, the FIR said. The FIR stated: "We found a Maruti 800 car moving suspiciously on the Karban village road and asked the driver to halt. However, instead of stopping, the accused tried to speed away. On chasing, he abandoned the car with liquor bottles and escaped." During checking, 480 bottles of whiskey and 240 bottles of beer were found hidden in different compartments of the car, the news report quoted the team as saying. On June 21, 389 cartons of liquor worth Rs 17 lakh were seized from Kishanganj district in Bihar, police said.

Acting on a tip-off that a truckload of liquor consignment was to be transported to one of the districts in north Bihar, a team headed by Bahadurganj police station SHO Suman Kumar Singh intercepted the vehicle at LRP chowk and seized the cartons containing 10,000 bottles of beer, they said. The truck driver has been arrested and sent to jail under the provisions of the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act 2016, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anwar Javed Ansari said.
