An NHSRCL official said large trees were being moved elsewhere in the status quo as part of protecting the environment before construction work began on the bullet train route. There are more than 60,000 trees on the bullet train route between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, out of which trees up to 90 cm in diameter will be transplanted with the help of special machines. While trees with a girth of more than 90 cm will be cut down. However, in order not to harm the environment, the local body will be given Rs 25,000 for planting 10 trees against one felled tree.

An NHSRCL official said that the old design of the Thane station of the bullet train had led to the cutting down of more than 53,000 mangrove trees. However, the design of Thane station has been changed to prevent such a large number of mangrove trees from being cut down, which will now require cutting down to 32,000 mangrove trees instead of 53,000. There will also be 5 mangrove trees planted against one mangrove.
