Statue of Unity: A gift from PM Modi to nation

The world’s tallest statue, the one and only Statue of Unity is a visual delight for visitors and tourists around the globe. The statue stands on the banks of River Narmada on the River Island of Sadhu bet in Kevadia, Gujarat. To experience the best of the place, the visitors are recommended to witness the monument during dark hours i.e., when the whole monument is illuminated with extraordinary lighting which beautifies it even more.

Moreover, Gujarat tourism has gifted the visitors with more than just the statue itself. The attractions that lie around the grand monument are spread on a land of over 25sq km which include places such as Shreshtha Bhavan, Butterfly garden, Cactus Garden, Vishwa Van, Ekta Nursery, and Sardar Sarovar Dam.

Lately, IAS Gujarat:1986 and Additional Chief Secretary (Forest & Environment Deptt), Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta tweeted on his account and referred to Kevadia as ‘Land of Billion Lights’. He tweeted, “Kevadia becomes a ‘Land of Billion Lights’ at night. 25sq km area around #StatueofUnity illuminated with extraordinary lighting. Come & see the world’s tallest statue, Stay the night to enjoy the spectacle of lights. What an extraordinary gift Hon @PMOIndia has given to nation @CMOGuj”

The stats however, speak for themselves. Prior to the coronavirus lockdown in the nation, the statue had a daily tourist footfall of 15,036 on average which surpassed the Statue of Liberty in New York City (which attracts just 10,000 visitors per day). Seeing, the accomplishments and the overall appeal of visitors towards the statue, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has included the site in the ‘8 Wonders of SCO’ list.
