Car accident in Gujarat leaves 10 dead

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased persons after 10 people lost their lives in a brutal ca accident in Gujarat.

On Wednesday, In a car accident reported in Gujarat`s Anand near Indranaj village 10 people were killed after their car collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction, police said.
The accident took place on a state highway connecting Tarapur in Anand district to Vatman in Ahmedabad district, a Tarapur police station official said.

"The car in which 10 people, including a child, were travelling, was hit by the speeding truck. All the 10 occupants of the car were killed on the spot," he said.

The team tried to get the bodies out of the mangled remains of the car and identify the deceased, the official said.
All the victims were from Bhavnagar in Gujarat and returning from Jalgaon in north Maharashtra after attending a marriage function, the police said. The truck was on its way to south Gujarat from Morbi, they said.

Expressing grief over the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased persons.

Separately, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani said an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be paid to the kin of each of the deceased from the Chief Minister`s Relief Fund. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil also expressed grief over the accident and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims.
