Profit in share market investment prove costly for Ahmedabad banker, as scammer scams him of 8 lakh

Kamlesh Meena, a resident of Jivraj Park locality, registered a cheating complaint with the Ellisbridge police on Sunday. In his complaint, Meena, who is a bank manager, stated that on January 24, he received a call from a man who introduced himself as Gaurav, an employee of Mehta Equities, a company based in Maharashtra’s Mumbai.

Cases of scams and frauds have skyrocketed recently in Gujarat as people keep losing money.

A bank manager in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad was defrauded of Rs 8 lakh by four people who lured him with the promise of promises of high returns on investments in equities.

Kamlesh Meena, a resident of Jivraj Park locality, registered a cheating complaint with the Ellisbridge police on Sunday. In his complaint, Meena, who is a bank manager, stated that on January 24, he received a call from a man who introduced himself as Gaurav, an employee of Mehta Equities, a company based in Maharashtra’s Mumbai.

 Gaurav promised Meena whopping profit on investments in the share market. He informed Meena that just 22 per cent would be the company’s cut from the returns on his investments.

Meena agreed to make investments. Gaurav asked him to pay Rs 3,000 as the charge for investment advice. Meena paid the money, and on January 25, he received a call from a person who claimed to be Neeraj, a stockbroker. Neeraj asked Meena to invest a sum of Rs 20,000 in stock.

He also told him that the equity firm’s office-bearer, Rakesh Reddy, would ring him up to give advice for generating more income by making equity investments, according to a report.

Following this, Reddy, his assistant named Abhinav Mishra and Gaurav made Meena invest in various shares. Meena paid a total of Rs 8.09 lakh. Meena asked the men to share the statement of his investments. The accused, however, didn’t share any document and went incommunicado.

Meena realised that he had been cheated. Subsequently, he approached the police with his complaint against the four men. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused for cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust.
