Gandhinagar: From the temple town of Somnath, where BJP kicked off the agitation for the Ram temple in Ayodhya in 1990, BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday called on the state BJP to uproot the Congress from all polling booths in Gujarat and win a bigger proportion of seats than the saffron party did in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand earlier this year. Shah addressed the valedictory session of the Gujarat BJP's executive committee meeting. He expressed his confidence that the BJP will surpass its target of 150-plus seats, but said the prime objective must be to wipe out Congress from Gujarat. While lauding the work done by PM Narendra Modi led's NDA government across the country and in Gujarat, he said, "Winning more than 150 seats is not our only target, you (workers) have to fight this elections to completely uproot Congress from every booth (there are 47,000 booths in Gujarat) as a part of Narendrabhai's dream of a 'Congress-mukt Bharat (Congress-free India). We have to register a proportionally bigger victory in Gujarat than in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. I am not talking as a political expert but as a layman. I believe that if we won 128 while Narendrabhai was CM, we have to win more than 150 seats to suit his prime ministerial post."He also warned the Gujarat BJP against overconfidence or staying idle in anticipation of getting one win after another, in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, under PM Modi's leadership. "Don't rest from this moment till the time of counting and results," Shah said.Shah lauded the government of India's achievements of the last three years and said, "Under PM Modi, we took 30 to 35 major decisions which other governments did not take in their complete terms. Be it starting implementation of GST regime, Jandhan accounts, Ujwala Yojana, rural electrification or reaching the poor. There is still a lot to done in the coming years to wipe out Congress completely and have BJP rule for the next 150 years."Congress a sinking ship so spreading rumours: RupaniChief minister Vijay Rupani said, "The Congress is a sinking ship and across the country, Congress leaders are joining the BJP. Here too they are living in fear, so they are spreading all kind of rumours about early elections. Shankersinh Vaghela is so fed up of answering question about the rumours of him joining us. Many Congress leaders are themselves spreading rumours of joining BJP on WhatsApp. When Amitbhai and me met Shankarsinh Vaghela in the assembly, he asked Amitbhai if we are planning to have early elections after the Uttar Pradesh victory. Amitbhai told him we want to give you more time to prepare. With every passing day, due to PM's pro-people governance, BJP is getting 5,000 votes more."He said, "I want to tell you that not a single community and in all parts of the state has anything like an anti-incumbency feeling for the BJP." He also said that the state BJP will soon organize a gathering of 10 lakh booth workers for the PM's visit. The CM also said, "Some workers complain to me that we are not getting enough Muslim workers in Muslim areas. I have told them that our minority morcha will reach out to the minority also even in places like Godhra." Rupani also focused on use of social media.Promises, promises: Bharatsinh SolankiGujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki lashed out at the BJP on Saturday, saying that in two decades of BJP rule, there have been just empty promises. "The BJP lies are exposed in the state. Even the Sardar Sarovar project would not have been possible had the UPA government not approved the dam height," Solanki said. "The BJP has ruled for two decades in Gujarat, but still blames the Congress for its shortcomings."Yadav takes charge as Gujarat BJP in-chargeAfter appointment Gujarat BJP in-charge Dinesh Sharma was appointed deputy CM of UP, BJP president Amit Shah appointed BJP national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan Bhupendrasinh Yadav to replace him. Yadav took charge formally on Saturday, during state BJP meeting at Somnath.
