Abandoned Pak fishing boat triggers alarm

AHMEDABAD: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday found a Pakistani fishing boat abandoned about a kilometre inside Indian waters from Haraminala channel in the creek area of Kutch . It may be recalled that earlier BSF officials had expressed concern about the frequent intrusion of Pakistani fishermen in the creek area. The jawans noticed a small, single-engine boat made of wood," a senior BSF officer said. This is the fifth Pakistani boat to be found abandoned in the area since November 2016.BSF officials said Pakistani fishermen venture into Indian waters in the creek area where the water is only knee deep. "We are constantly on the watch as there is always a worry that terror suspects operating from Pakistani soil may get into India in the guise of fishermen," the BSF officer said.

They fish for prawns and a fish called 'Lal Pari' which fetches high prices and is considered a precious catch.However, usually on hearing the sound of BSF patrolling boats, the Pakistani fishermen abandon their boats and run away to the Pakistani side."The 79th battalion of the BSF was on patrol duty in the area. The jawans noticed a small, single-engine boat made of wood," a senior BSF officer said."It had been abandoned near Border Pillar No. 1162/M in the Haraminala channel. We believe Pakistani fishermen ran away leaving their boat when they saw our patrol boats," the officer said.BSF officials said they had intensified patrolling in the area to search for other such boats which could have been abandoned by Pakistani fishermen. It may be recalled that earlier BSF officials had expressed concern about the frequent intrusion of Pakistani fishermen in the creek area."We are constantly on the watch as there is always a worry that terror suspects operating from Pakistani soil may get into India in the guise of fishermen," the BSF officer said.
