After the Gujarat High Court slammed the civic body over the stray cattle menace, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) took up the task of capturing these animals seriously. On Saturday, they released data on how many animals they captured in the past two months. The Cattle Nuisance and Control Department data said that had captured 3,806 cattle since August 17. "On an average we are capturing around 50 to 60 cattle every day. In the past two weeks, we captured about 70 animals every day. Of this, 28 cattle were released by their owner while an NGO released 33," said a official from the department. "Once we capture the animals, we register and tag them. When the owner come to us, we seek their written assurance that they will not leave their cattle to wander on roads and cause accidents and traffic jams," added the official. It is to note that, earlier the authority had decided to impose criminal charges against the cattle owners in case they leave their animals unattended. A case of culpable homicide under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 308 is filed against the owners. The civic body in August had filed such cases against two owners. Gujarat High court is also in favour of taking strong action against violators.
